Week2

David's prototype was a platformer using teleporting. I made a small level and let players complete it. Everyone finishes it with decent speed.  I made the goal viewable when you start the level but left a red herring which was a box to show how high they can jump. Once they made it they'll see a red door on the next platform which they can't jump to. Once they realize there's a door on the ground floor they'll walk through it which teleports them to that platform.  The rest of the level is basic jumps. The main complaint was the camera angle(To see the player's feet) which was a quick fix with the FOV slider and being able to look up and down. Since people enjoy the portal and movement of my game and the combat and magic in Donnacha's game we're thinking of either making it a rouge-like game or a wave survival game. Using movement and spells to maneuver past enemies and survive. Hopefully, in week 3, we would have a more solid idea of what we wish to do.

My question for the next prototype is "Can I make a platformer with limited vision and a jump that doesn't always work".

Design goal = Particles for spell, sound and layout for movement

Experience goal = Make a fast pace game and arsenal/ weapon switching

Donnacha's prototype worked well, people got used to messing around and using the various skills trying to understand them, it was relatively smooth going for most of the tests. I did learn some valuable info from this, I found that some of the movement could be greatly improved upon using some gentler movement overall. The methods worked well overall however. Some good lessons were learn in explaining better how the controls worked and finding better methods to activate rather than the admittedly clunky method of the game in it's current form.

My next question was "Can I add a level of randomization to the game while still keeping it playable?"

This will also help me learn whether it is a good idea or not to include random deck drawing to the game or should I keep it a bit more tailored to a level.
